'Today Britain enjoys the dubious distinction of being the only major country where it is government policy to make class a formal criterion for admissions'

Article Abstract:

The university admissions system in the United Kingdom needs to be overhauled and replaced with a US-style SAT-type test if the politicised atmosphere that has developed around the issue is to be cleared away. It is argued that the UK is currently the only major nation to make class an issue in the admissions process and that the implementation of a SAT style system could help nullify this.

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the university admissions system in the United Kingdom a comparison with the systems used in the United States and Australia. It is argued that while there is room to improve the admissions system in the UK, to adopt the system used in the US would be to take on a system that has a number of inherent problems that the current system in the UK is able to avoid.
