UKPd75K to lead top secret institute

Article Abstract:

An institute that will use the best mathematical brains in the United Kingdom for national security work in cryptography, coding and data encryption is being established in a joint initiative between GCHQ, the government communications headquarters, and Bristol University. The institute will be based at Bristol University and will employ a team of 30 high-calibre researchers, led by a top pure mathematician who will receive a wage of UKPd75,000/yr.

Elite stump up millions in research stars

Article Abstract:

Royal Holloway, University of London, launched an UKPd4 mil recruitment drive early in an attempt to pre-empt similar exercises by other universities and to maximise their opportunities of attracting the top academic talent. Royal Holloway launched the recruitment drive by placing an advert in the Times Higher on 19 December 2003 in which it listed 27 new research-led roles as part of a "major strategic investment".

UK enjoys a brain gain in young talent

Article Abstract:

New figures have revealed that a brain gain in young academics from overseas is swelling the ranks of faculty at universities in the UK. However, the figures also reveal that far fewer overseas senior academics and professors are choosing to work in the UK, and that growing numbers of UK academics are leaving for jobs abroad.
