Draw the line at copying? Not him

Article Abstract:

Stephen Farthing, Rootstein Hopkins professor of drawing at Chelsea College of Art and Design, is determined to help teach students in the UK how to draw. While this may appear to be an obvious aim for somebody in his position, he contends that the majority of art schools have stopped teaching their students how to draw as they did not wish to colour the student's idea of what something should look like. The result is students who have not received the same basic training that artists such as Picasso received.

...believe students are too concerned with failure to experiment with art

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the study of art at university and the way attitudes towards failure have changed in recent years. It is argued that students, who are worried about paying their fees and the level of debt that they will finish their course with, are now more concerned with passing their course than they are in experimenting with art itself.
