Brown finds extra cash to fund growth

Article Abstract:

Chancellor Gordon Brown quashed fears that the expansion of universities would be done on the cheap on 17 March 2004 when he confirm de in his budget speech that rising student numbers will continue to be fully funded by the government until 2008. Details contained within the budget reveal that the UK's education budget will grow to UKPd77 bil by 2007-2008, up from UKPd59 bil this year.

Pay deal could mean job cuts

Universities could be forced to consider major job cuts in order to afford the national pay deal agreed by unions, according to employers. Unions and universities have reached agreement to raise academic salaries by 13.1 percent over three years.
