Some scientists believe there will be a breakthrough in the search for extra-terrestrial life in the 21st century, with other planets similar to Earth likely to be identified.

The United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) is to use a new system of clinical governance, and a National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) is being launched. NICE aims to provide support for clinical governance and will supply guidance to health workers on issues such as choice of drugs and procedures. Physicians are expected to take heed of this guidance. Appraisals of health techniques are to be carried out by NICE, and this includes established techniques as well as new procedures.
