Women on the edge of a breakthrough

Article Abstract:

The British Psychological Society did not accept a proposal for the creation of a Psychology of Women section until 1987, with psychologists subsequently willing to consider female issues as an important area of research whereas before the issues were unrecognized. Few women were appointed to powerful positions within the society until after 1985, even though they comprised a major proportion of professional psychologists. Psychology research had also focused entirely on male samples which were then applied to both men and women, with women's life-cycle events completely ignored.

A boost blurring the edge

Article Abstract:

The introduction of the National Curriculum has led to calls for reform of post-16 education and training. At present there is seen to be a great divide between academic A levels and more vocational courses such as BTEC. Modular schemes are suggested, perhaps a baccalaureat to replace all the current courses. Employers are calling for change in the system to produce a workforce which is innovative.
