Lifetime Achievement Award

Article Abstract:

The Times Higher Education Supplement gave its Lifetime Achievement Award for 2005 to Lewis Elton, who has recently accepted a visiting professorship of higher education at Manchester University. Elton, who is now 82, is widely acknowledged to have inspired a generation of academics who have carried on his work.

Rana Mitter was awarded the title of The Times Higher Education Supplement's Young Academic Author of the Year for 2005 for his book "A Bitter Revolution: China's Struggle with the Modern World". The judges selected the book because it told a strong story that none had heard before.
