Environmental engineers must be prepared to address customer complaints as well as cope with disasters and surprise visits by EPA inspectors. In addition, they should look at toxic site clean-ups as an opportunity to build a positive relationship with the EPA and communities.

Wetlands: how mitigation banking works

Electric utilities saddled with the task of repairing the damages they have made on wetlands in compliance with the Clean Water Act, have found an alternative. They can now purchase credits from mitigation-banking investors which buy and establish wetlands.

Low-volume spraying: the better way to manage ROWs

Selective herbicide application enables electric utilities to turn their rights-of-way into wildlife sanctuaries and lower their line-maintenance costs. Currently, the practice is carried out either through basal-bark or low-volume foliar application.
