Article Abstract:

Tonna Electronique and Dassault Automatismes et T l communications (AT) expect to make FFr 100mn in sales in the year 2000 through their new activity in common. The two companies will develop, produce and market a range of cable modems and other equipment which meet the MCNS (Multimedia Cable Network Service) standard. A MCNS-compliant, modem with a throughput of between 5 MBPS and 30 MBPS should be introduced in December 1998 as the first achievement of the partnership. Projects will involve about 15 people from each of the two partners.

Article Abstract:

In the second quarter of 1998, the French semiconductors market reported a good performance of its telecoms and automotive sectors while the computer and general public segments were bad performers. According to the union of semiconductors makers, the sales went down 4% compared to the first quartero of 1998, to a 182 index from 188 (and 100 in the first quarter of 1994). In the whole of 1998, the value sales should go up 6% from the year before, slightly down a previous forecast however. In the first quarter of 1998, telecoms was the largest application with 39% of the semiconductors market (30% in the same year-earlier period), while computers fell to 11% (from 20%).
