DVD formats diversify, multiply as market begins to flourish

Article Abstract:

The growing number of DVD formats and specifications will enable consumers to choose from a variety of offerings and guarantee the best application of the DVD features for business and home entertainment purposes. In the early stages of DVD market growth, this will mean that manufacturers must decide on a set of standards to use. However, the large capacity and digital technology at work in DVDs should allow them to prosper in various kinds of applications.

As DVDs catch on, diverse formats emerge for music, movies, data

Article Abstract:

The growing popularity of DVDs have spawned various categories and formats. DVDs can be divided into those that can only play back prerecorded data and those that can record data and play it back. The three types of playback-only discs are DVD-ROMs, DVD-Video and DVD-Audio while recordable DVDs include rewritable DVDs and DVD-RAMs. All DVDs use a digital format involving the use of red lasers with a 650 nm wavelength.
