As organic EL displays improve, goal of full color still elusive

Article Abstract:

Tohoku Pioneer Corp of Japan was responsible for introducing an organic electroluminiscence (EL) dot-matrix display in 1998. Since then, EL has yet to fulfill its potential as a possible alternative to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) because of a number of improvements that need to be made in the technology. However, organic EL, which is capable of providing strong characteristics in areas where LCDs are considered weak, continue to be a main subject of R&D efforts by a number of display makers.

Latest efforts put organic ELs one step closer to full-color dream

Article Abstract:

Tohoku Pioneer Corp developed an organic electroluminescent (EL) display that features superior reliability under varying environmental conditions. Its significant features include self-emission, a thin-film surface- emission panel formed on a glass substrate, the low voltage drive, an operation mechanism similar to that of an LED, a quick response speed, resistance of the effects of temperature on luminous efficiency and the use of organic materials.
