Ascend orders CDMA software from LG Information

Article Abstract:

LG Information and Communications Ltd has received orders from Ascend Communications for two software packages for code-division multiple access subscriber management. The contract is worth $10 million, which will be paid by Ascend in divided amounts between 1999 and 2002. The software packages feature home location registers, which are software programs developed to identify subscribers' positions, and authentication center technology, which is used to verify user identities.

Samsung Corning ups nanopowder business

Article Abstract:

Samsung Corning Co Ltd is establishing a strategic alliance with the Advanced Powder Technology (APT) of Australia. APT, a spin-off from the University of Western Australia, is the owner of world patents in nanopowder manufacturing technologies that are used in the mass production of metallic nanopowders. The joint venture, Advanced Nanopowder Technologies, is planning to launch a next-generation nanopowder materials business.

Ericsson, and all its subsidiaries and entities world-wide, have bought out from Lernout & Hauspie its licences on the voice recognition, speech synthesis and compression technologies. The operation was performed in the begining of August 1998. Lernout & Hauspie is a Belgian specialist in automated translation and other voice and speech-based software products.
