Breakthrough software turns a universe of information into distinctive clusters and galaxies

Article Abstract:

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has developed the software called SPIRE which allows the user to rapidly analyze vast amounts of data. It can analyze thousands of documents without the need for usual search methods and converts them into clusters with each cluster composed of similar documents.

Solvent recovery uncovers big cost saving at Duke Power

Article Abstract:

Duke Power Co. was able to reduce its annual solvent-waste output from 200,00 lbs. in 1989 to 60,000 lbs. in 1995 aside from saving $100,000 in costs. the achievement is attributable to solvent recovery units, the shipping of waste to a cement kiln and the reduction of hand painting.
