Best practices at Hewlett-Packard

Article Abstract:

The success of consumer electronics manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) is based on the good management practices it developed since its establishment in 1938. In addition, the company was able to combine these good business practices with high goals, common values and a corporate culture that motivates and rewards performance. Furthermore, success was easily achieved by HP by continuously improving accountability and being more responsive to customer needs.

Wal-Mart's success is attributable to its best practices which, when combined, create tremendous value for shareholders. General Electric CEO Jack Welch lauds the speed of decision-making at Wal-Mart which he wants his managers and employees to emulate. He specifically cited Wal-Mart's decision-making speed, bias for action and customer fixation as the drivers of Wal-Mart's progress.
