Color TVs, DVDs head shipment gains in Japan

Japan's consumer electronics industry is gaining strength in color TVs and DVDs as evidenced by shipment figures in Mar 2000. Sales of color TVs in Japan have increased for nine consecutive months, according to the Electronic Industries Assn of Japan. DVD sales have also risen steadily since their first appearance in the market. Color TV shipments have grown by 4.7% in Mar to 1.018 million units. Among the most popular products in this category are models that will accommodate digital broadcast satellite services.

Onkyo Corp's audio-video receiver lineup consists of seven models in gold, black and silver. The TX-DS939, the top-end model in the Integra line, incorporates dual 24-bit Motorola processors and the company's proprietary digital sound processor circuitry. The technology allows the simultaneous decoding of the Dolby Digital AC-3, 5.1-channel sound track and the THX enhancement package. Other models in the series are the TX-DS838, TX- DS747, TX-DS656, TX-DS555, TX-DS474 and TX-SV.

Adding value to DVDs, Onkyo polishes home theater act

Article Abstract:

Onkyo Corp of Japan will focus its marketing activities on value-added digital video disc players and home theater systems. The company has also rolled out its new Premium Digital line of audio/video receivers, which consists of the TX-DS989, TX-DS575X and the TX-DS484 models. The TX-DS989 featurs a seven-channel amplifier and is compatible with THX Suround EX. All three models feature Onkyo's Wide-Range Amplifier Technology.
