Compaq, Radioshack announced creative learning centers

Article Abstract:

Compaq and Tandy-Radio Shack have agreed to install Compaq's Creative Learning Center kiosks at 5000 RadioShack stores in the US. The move is part of RadioShack's bid to become recognized as a family computer store, says pres Leonard Roberts. Tandy will certify 20,000 employees to sell Compaq PCs and establish 53 service centers. Compaq will sell Presario desktops, the Presario 1232 notebook, printers, and SKUs at the kiosks and will be the exclusive computer brand at participating stores.

Changes in consumer lifestyles and demographics are having an impact on buying patterns for home appliances. Aware of these trends, marketers are using lifestyle marketing to deliver their wares in a more efficient and effective manner. The segmentation of the market, in turn, is prompting some observers to say that the home appliance business is breaking out of the commodity trap. Some observers, however, note that innovation is also a major factor driving sales of home appliances.

Retailers, consumers stock in the promise

Article Abstract:

High-end consumer electronics retailers are reporting brisk sales of high-definition television sets. The retailers attributed the sales to efforts by their sales staff and the manufacturers' consumer education programs which boosted buyers' interest on digital and digital-ready products. However, retailers fear that the period of intense sales will eventually drop once the early adopters acquired their units.
