Internet fuels shocking load requests

Article Abstract:

The article discusses the growth of Internet traffic, as the demand for computers, servers, and power also increases. Power companies are scrambling to provide for consumption rates much higher than anticipated. In about 17 jurisdictions, about 200 MW of new load is to be added in each. One consulting company forecasts increased Internet traffic from 350,000 terabytes/month in 1999 to more than 15 mil terabytes/month in 2003. Some predictions are included, related to the increasing demand for electricity.
