Data-friendly HDTV

Article Abstract:

The Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association predicts sales of digital television sets to reach 600,000 units by 2000 and 10 million by 2003. These projections, however, will only come true when a number of favorable trends converge, including the availability of digital signals via local transmitters and the pace of development of high-definition programming. Another important factor is the availability of digital post- production equipment.

TV/VCR combo: space savers

Article Abstract:

A Panasonic official said dealers have so far only tapped 10% of the potential market for the TV/VCR combo. That is why Panasonic is introducing 13 new models, while JVC is rolling out two new models in 1999.

Plasma TV: Jetson-like tech at home

Article Abstract:

Flat panel plasma television sets are beginning to hit store shelves. Not for those with a tight budget, flat panel TVs feature a 16:9 aspect ratio, are high definition-ready and can be hung on the wall. Affluent consumers who wish to make a statement about their lifestyle are expected to be the first buyers of the technology, which is expected to only hit critical mass within three to four years.
