Demand propels digital, satellite projects skyward

Article Abstract:

Digital broadcasting in Japan is expected to commence with the scheduled launching in 2000 of the replacement to the country's BS-4 satellite. Japan's digital broadcasting system, one of three that have received approval from the US Federal Communications Commission, is expected to cost from 1.2 trillion yen to 1.3 trillion yen. Most broadcasters are confident that the future benefits of the system far outweighs its initial cost.
