Developers probe optical media to extract maximum capacity

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers of optical discs are stepping up development efforts to cope with increasing demand for better performing products. This demand is due to advances in multimedia equipment. One of the two main trends in the optical recording media market is the development of magneto-opitcal discs with a capacity that meets specifications by the International Standard Organization (ISO). The other trend involves the search of formats to expand memory capacity beyond the ISO standards.

Optical discs spin toward shimmering future as demand, output rise

Article Abstract:

Optical recording media are becoming increasingly important in the data storage sector since they offer large capacities and long-term reliability. The focus of rapidly expanding demand are recordable CDs (CD- Rs) and rewritable CDs (CD-RWs). The popularity of CD-Rs and CD-RWs owes much to the rapid spread of disc drives in personal computers and to the growing use of the Internet. Thus, manufacturers are gearing up thier production operations as use trends continue to unfold.

Markets for optical recording media, storage products grow

Article Abstract:

The worldwide markets for most forms of optical media are increasing as businesses and consumers around the globe increasingly depend on optical discs of various kinds for capturing and storing data, images and sounds. The Japan Recording-Media Industries Assn's forecasts indicate increased production of many varieties of optical media. In the meantime, production of such established media as audiocassette tapes is shrinking as users abandon them in favor of optical discs.
