Digital video recorders: convergence finds a home

Article Abstract:

Consumer electronics manufacturers are introducing products that combines the functionality of the personal computer with television. The digital convergence trend has led to the creation of digital video recorders (DVRs) or the hard disk enabled interactive set-top box. Philips was the first to launch a DVR called the Personal TV product. Other firms that launched their own DVRs are Echostar, Panasonic, Replay Networks and Sony.

CES Video: a digital parade

Article Abstract:

A number of video equipment debuted at the 2000 Consumer Electronics Show. Some of the products introduced at the event include flat-tube analog television sets from Zenith, Philips, Panasonic, Aiwa and Konka. Sharp, Samsung and Thomson unveiled rear-projection and direct-view high definition sets. EchoStar introduced an integrated high definition DBS system while Huges, Zenith and Panasonic promised to unveil their DirecTV boxes in late 2000.

DV dominates new video cameras

Article Abstract:

Consumer electronics manufacturers have launched digital camcorders at the 2000 Photo Marketing Assn Show. These include Sony, which unveiled a line of Digital8 camcorders comprised of DCR-TRV820, DCR-TRV120 and DCR-TRV720, and Canon, which introduced Optura Pi digital videocam. JVC, on the other hand, launched its DVL series of Mini DV cams composed of four models that include the GR-DVL805 and GR-DVL505.
