With mid-range, low-end, portable models, pioneer extends DVD lineup

Article Abstract:

Pioneer Electronic Corp, one of the first companies to introduce high-end DVD players, is adding mid-range and low-end models to its DVD lineup in response to shifts in consumer demand. For the same reason, the company has launched two portable DVD players, which the company is targeting for overseas markets. The company intends to begin shipping the portable DVD players in fall 1999 in time for the Holiday season.

Phased-in approach give toshiba time to build base in DVD markets

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp is implementing a three-phase strategy for its DVD business operations. The strategy consists of time-framed introductions of DVD players in diverse markets, as well as structured marketing schemes for specific market targets. With the strategy, Toshiba hopes to expand its current base in the DVD market and capture a slice of the growing global DVD industry.
