Drive for digital spurs Toshiba's latest releases

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp of Japan is introducing a number of digital consumer electronic products in Apr 2000. The company's latest releases include silicon audio players that are equipped with the Secure Digital Memory Cards and camcorders with hard disk drives that can record images for three or four hours at a time. Toshiba's latest digital products are the results of the DVD Business Development and Strategy Div, an alliance with other firms that it established in Apr 1999.

Expecting rising DVC demand, Matsushita releases 3 models

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd introduced three compact Digital Videocassette (DVC) camcorder models under its Panasonic brand in 1998. The firm believes that the DVC format will become the dominant technology for camcorders in all its markets. The compact DVC camcorders introduced were DS77, the NVEX1 and the Digital Ace 1. Matsushita intends to increase its global market share for DVC camcorders by introducing newer and smaller models.

Sharp releases first SharpVision DTV

Article Abstract:

Sharp Electronics Corp's first-ever rear-projection HDTV set, the 64LHP5000, and the TU-DTV1000 digital TV (DTV) decoder, both under the SharpVision brand, were unveiled by the company in Nov 1998. The 64-in, diagonal wide-screen 64LHP5000, which is equipped with multiple tuners, is ideal for panoramic viewing. The system boasts of an Advanced Television Standards Committee decoder capable of decoding all 18 different DTV broadcast formats.
