Dumping Decision Puts Taiwan

Article Abstract:

The International Trade Commission has decided that color television sets from Taiwan and Korea at an unfairly low price have caused injury to the domestic industry. The decision clears the way for the United States Customs to start collecting dumping duties from importers. Not all companies from Korea and Taiwan will have the duty imposed, and those that do will have it based on average dumping margin. Some of the companies will react to the problem by increasing production facilities in the United States. Sampo has almost stopped importing, Samsung has accelerated construction of its New Jersey plant and Gold Star is switching its United States microwave plant over to television production. Consensus among industry leaders is that the legislation will affect low end models.

TV Sales Techniques: This Is the Year That Is

Article Abstract:

Retailers of television sets will have to deal with the innovations in technology in order to avoid consumer confusion. Complaints about cable ready sets are second only to complaints about service as a result of retailers not grasping the limitations of cable ready features. The introduction of stereo sets will result in complaints from customers who believe that the sets will have stereo sound regardless of boadcast method. Stereo broadcasts this year will be mostly music video clips and movies. In 1985 fifty percent of color console buyers will want stereo sets.
