Floorplanning: Old Retail Standby Coming to Computer Dealers' Aid

Article Abstract:

Floorplanning programs are helping dealers deal with the burden of computer hardware inventory resources. ITT Commercial Finance is at the forefront of floorplanning personal computer hardware. Approximately 1,400 dealers have been signed up by the company. The company usually finances inventory for sixty days, the average shelf life of computers being forty-five to sixty days. The company also finances expansions and equipment rental plans. ITT's 1983 floorplanning operations were over $90 million. They have twenty two centers in the United States.

In terms of demographics, industry watchers only agree that baby boomers still represent a substantial market for autosound equipment. West coast suppliers see more single women in the market. Some believe that the 1984 car stereo buyer is poorer, others believe he is richer.
