German deregulation: will it spark - or fizzle - the European Union's free market?

Chancellor Helmut Kohl's decision to deregulate the German electric power industry may determine the success of the European Union's free market plans. Giant electric companies support the plan with the provision that fair adjustment period and strict adherence are observed.

To merge or not to merge? It is still the question for utilities

Electric utilities are still faced with the dilemma of whether to merge with other industry players or maintain their status as independent power producers. This problem has also cast doubts over the reliability of the methods traditionally used in valuing utility assets.

Why Enron paid a premium for Portland General
