Hitachi gears up for large leap in LCD sales

Article Abstract:

Hitachi Ltd is expanding its production capacity to support its goal of generating 200 billion yen in LCD sales by FY2002. The company has already added a V3 Line factory at the Mobara compound and is expanding Super TFT LCDs business operations. The display group is expected to yield 300 billion yen in FY1999 and, subsequently, to generate 400 billion yen in sales by FY2002. Hitachi aims at becoming one of the three leading manufacturers of LCDs in the world in terms of volume.

Toshiba polishes plans for 250 billion yen in LCD sales

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp is hoping to generate 170 billion yen in liquid crystal display (LCD) sales in 2000. By 2001, it expects to generate 250 billion yen in revenue. The company has already set aside 52 billion yen for plant investments in 2000 and predicts its investments in plants to total 100 billion yen by FY2003. Specifically, Toshiba is investing 38 billion yen in its Fukaya factory for a third mass production line due to the growing demand for low-temperature polysilicon LCDs.

LCD makers set sights on steep sales gains for FY2000

Article Abstract:

Eight major Japanese LCD makers are aiming for a 24.8% increase in collective sales in year 2000, representing 1.3 trillion yen. Many are expanding facilities to increase production of LCDs currently in demand. These include the displays for televisions, personal digital assistants, notebook computers and desktop monitors. Hence, the cumulative investment plans by the eight manufacturers will reach 300 billion yen, which is twice the investment figure in 1999.
