Home networking at CES: share the wealth

Article Abstract:

Consumer electronics manufacturers will be showcasing their new home networking products at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2000 which will be held in Los Angeles, CA, in Dec 1999. Broadband and Internet access options for audio, video and data are expected to be launched at the show. Among those participating with their products are 3Com, Texas Instruments, Thomson, Into Networks, BroadLogic, Sun Microsystems and Cisco Systems.

Consumer audio makers have launched their latest line of portable CD players. Philips has launched ACT7580 portable CD player with 25-second Electronic Skip Protection and 3-state Dynamic Bass Boost at $99 each. Aiwa America introduced its XP-R100 portable CD player with Swoops neckband with a suggested retail price of $110. Other new entries are Panasonic's SL-S365J and SL-360J CD Jogger models, Sharp's MD-MS722 personal/portable MD player/recorder and Samsung, Yep Player MP3 device.

MP3 grows up

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers of digital audio products have launched their latest lines of MP3 players. The latests models include Sony Corp's NW-MS7 Memory Stick Walkman Personal Stereo, Diamond Multimedia's Rio 500 MP3 plaer, Creative Labs' Nomad 64MB MP3 player and I-Jam Multimedia's I-JAM MP3 player. Meanwhile, music studios are planning to encode original recordings for CDs, MDs and Internet music downloads with digital watermarks that will allow consumers to make unlimited first-generation copies but will prevent the reproduction of copies.
