Article Abstract:

The Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, NM, will celebrate its 70th year in 1997 by opening several new habitats. Visitors will be able to see 'Australia: The Island Continent,' a polar bear habitat, and the Albuquerque Aquarium as part of the anniversary celebration. Current exhibits include a habitat for harbor seals and California sea lions, and a pool for koi and waterbirds. The zoo's goals include rare animal breeding and habitat preservation.
