New wireless options: surf's up at CES!

Wireless Internet access communications systems will be introduced at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2000 in response to increasing consumer demand for the technology. Various Wireless Access Protocol- compliant phones coming from Audiovox Communications Corp, Ericsson, Motorola Personal Communications Sector, Nokia, Sanyo Fisher, Cobra Electronics, GPX, Unwired Laral Group, Wireless Marketing Corp, Motorola Paging Products Group and Wireless Paging Corp will be showcased in the show.

In wireless communications, small is powerful

Manufacturers of wireless communication systems have launched their latest lines of small but full-featured cellphones and pagers. Ericsson is offering its 5.04-oz T18d tri-mode TDMA phones that operates in digital model on the 800MHz and 1900MHz network frequencies. Motorola Inc has introduced its Vphone model V3682, which is the smallest and lightest GSM phone, and its analog cellular model V3620. Qualcomm has introduced its Thin Phone CDMA digital phone, while Nokia is offering its 8800 GSM tri- mode cellphone.

New wireless frontier

Article Abstract:

The new frontier for the wireless communications industry is hand-held phones with the capability to browse the Web. Phones equipped with Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) microbrowsers were the hit during the Personal Communications Showcase '99 in New Orleans, LA. Some WAP-enabled phones introduced in 1999 includes Samsung's SCH-3500 CDMA phone; Ericsson's R380; Nokia's 7100 Series and Motorola's TimePort Series.
