JVC drafts 1999 VCR sales strategy around Super VHS ET format

The Victor Company of Japan Ltd (JVC), a leading player in the audio-video equipment industry, is centering its 1999 VCR sales strategy around its Super its Super VHS Extended Technology format. Sharp Corp of Japan has developed the TU-DTV1000 digital TV decoder and the 64LHP5000 rear-projector high-definition TV set that feature integrated expansion port, which allows the company's digital TV products to keep up with emerging technologies in the category. The company also has new digital-TV-ready CRT TVs in three sizes. Sharp also developed digital TVs designed to meet specifications for terrestrial digital broadcasts in the US and Europe.

JVC's explorations extract new strengths from VHS format

Victor Co of Japan Ltd has developed its Super VHS Expansion Technology (S-VHS ET) that enables standard VHS tapes to provide 400 or more scanning lines in resolution. This level of resolution in recording and playback had previously only been possible with High-Grade Super VHS tapes. S-VHS ET will satisfy the requirements of video users in Japan and the US and promises to expand the areas of use for fine-resolution Super VHS recording systems.
