KXL-RW30AN CD-R/RW drive

Article Abstract:

Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co Ltd has introduced its KXL-RW30AN portable drive for recordable CDs (CD-Rs) and rewritable CDs that offers 8x writing speed with a PC card. The interface card included with the drive works with the CardBus. It can write data on CD-Rs at 8x and can read data at 24x. It can be used as a recovery drive for the system with its capability of being switched to the 16-bit mode. The drive is available in a tool that allows users to create a boot disc. The product sells for $443.

SD-M1502 DVD-ROM drive transfers data at 16x speeds

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Corp has introduced the SD-MK1502 DVD-ROM drive. The product can work in the 16x mode for DVDs and the 48x mode for CD-ROMs. It offers a continuous data transfer at 21,600 Kbps during DVD playback which results from improvements in the digital servo technology. The product adopts an Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface. The burst transfer rate is compatible with Programmed Input and Output Mode 4 and with Ultra Direct Memory Access specifications, allowing 33.3MB/sec transfers.

PCB-PR800D 8x-speed DVD-ROM drive

Article Abstract:

Pioneer Corp has introduced a DVD-ROM drive that is capable of a transfer rate of 10,800KB/sec. The PCB-PR800D drive, which is intended for use in notebook computers, also has an average seek time of 130ms. The use of CyberLink Inc's Power DVD software will permit a notebook computer equipped with the Pioneer PCB-PR800D DVD-ROM drive to replay DVD-Video program with excellent resolution. The device retails for 39,800 yen ($372).
