MERA knowledgeFest 2004: independent retailers come together to create a better dashboard democracy

Article Abstract:

Mobile Enhancement Retailers Association (MERA's) was held in Louisville for independent retailers to form an alliance against automobile manufacturer who are making it more and more difficult to install aftermarket products in new vehicles. The two critical factors facing the mobile electronics community are identified as the physical challenge of integrating head units into dashboards with non-standard dashboard designs, and the integration of aftermarket mobile electronics equipment into vehicles with complex bus networks.

A lot of support goes a long way

Article Abstract:

Several manufacturers are providing financial incentives for experienced installers of automotive electronics to share information on mobile electronics installation methods. Pioneer has launched the Mobile Electronics Live, a website which features a forum on installation solutions. Other efforts to promote installer information sharing are discussed.
