Matsushita steps up network equipment development

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd (Panasonic) plans to enter into alliances with US firms for the development of network connection equipment. The company is already in the process of developing home gateway systems that are capable of receiving data via telephone and cable lines and sending them through each room in the house. Panasonic, which is expected to develop hardware that will link such networks, intends to begin introducing the devices in mid-2000.

Home computer networks, the logical next step to office-based computer networks, are expected to revolutionize the way people use their household appliances. Digital networks promises an entire new level of convenience in terms of harmonizing the control of home electronics equipment. However, the technology itself reaises questions such as the platform that will be used and the method of communications that will be employed.

Color paints new face on TV doorphones; hybrids open market

Article Abstract:

Analysts speculate that the Japanese market for TV doorphones will grow steadily as more people get conscious about security issues. A growing trend in the TV doorphone industry is the adoption of color capabilities, which manufactures hope will stimulate demand. New color TV doorphone models with better picture quality and additional functions could boost the product's share of the market by 30% in 2000.
