Multifunction devices provide economic alternatives

Article Abstract:

Multifunction devices with more performance features were introduced by manufacturers in 1999. These include Borther's MFC-9100C, Sharp's UX- 4000M, Canon's MultiPASS C530, Xerox's Work Centre 470cx and Hewlett Packard's HP LaserJet 1100A. Panasonic, on the other hand, released three multifunction devices, namely, KX-FM106, KX-FLM600 and KX-FLM650. These business machines are capable of printing, Internet faxing, scanning and photocopying, thus, providing small offices/home offices considerable cost savings.

Falling prices of personal computers (PC) have prompted manufacturers to be more creative in making and marketing their products. Most of them resorted to partnering with Internet service providers to package their personal computers with free Internet access. Some PC manufacturers, on the other hand, started offering a more comprehensive Internet solution by marketing a package consisting of hardware, software, entertainment solutions, Internet access and broadband and Internet service.
