Japan's exports of VCRs jumped 57.2 percent in May 1984. Japanese manufacturers are seeking to increase volume in local production in overseas markets. Japanese producers of IBM PC compatible computers are stepping up production. Apple is increasing its marketing efforts in Japan. Toshiba is one of the most active firms in the development of high-definition TV.

Toshiba will supply GE with DAD digital disk players on an OEM basis. Japan Broadcasting Corporation will soon introduce a half-inch home VCR. Seiko expects to sell thirty thousand units of its LCD mini color TVs. ComputerLand has made a deal with Star Manufacturing of Shizuoka to retail three different Star printers.
