Subsidies spark growth in Japan's solar battery output

Article Abstract:

The production of solar battery in Japan is projected to grow by 22% to 60MW in 1999, after soaring by 40.6% between 1997 and 1998 to 49.2MW. The industry is benefitting from the growing demand for solar batteries as a result of the rising government subsidies for household solar battery installations, which grew from 11.1 billion yen in 1997 to 16 billion yen in 1999. Future production of solar battery modules is expected to be influenced by government measures against global warming and costs of solar battery systems.
