Mobile telephones spur soaring orders for crystal devices

Crystal device manufacturers are operating at near capacity because of a dramatic growth in the demand for crystal devices including crystal oscillators and filters. Orders for such devices continue to surpass production, and shortages are becoming apparent in some sectors. Prices for some products, particularly TCXOs, appear to be levelling off at the same time. The Quartz Crystal Industry Assn of Japan has reported that orders for crystal devices reached 302.2 million units by Feb 1999.

Direct Rambus DRAMs stimulate tester companies

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers of semiconductor memory test equipment have developed 1Gbps- class memory IC testers for testing direct Rambus dynamic random access memory circuits (DRAMs). The global market for testers for direct Rambus DRAMs is predicted to reach about 300 units in 1999. In Japan, demand is expected at about 150 testers, representing a market worth 45 billion yen.
