Infrared systems get green light from consumer electronics makers

Article Abstract:

New wireless communications equipment with infrared capabilities continue to appear on the market in 1998. Most data communications that use infrared signals are governed by Infrared Data Assn (IrDA) standards. IrDA-compatible infrared communications systems have uses that go well beyond data transmission. Such sytems also work in wireless local area networks, wristwatches, toys, home electronics equipment and even home appliances and multimedia systems. New infrared wireless systems are also being developed for computers and Internet televisions.

Connector market on course to reach $43 billion in 2001

Article Abstract:

The worldwide market for communication connectors will reach $43.3 billion in 2001, US-based Fleck Research predicted. Bishop and Assoc, another US research firm, said connectors represented 18.3% of all connector sales in 1999. According to Bishop and Assoc, the worldwide market for connectors in the field of wireless and mobile communications in 2000 increased 17.3% to $1.27 billion. The growth in demand for connectors in wireless communications applications is attributed to the deregulation in the US and liberalization in Europe.
