Radio stations maintain strong growth in Japan

Article Abstract:

Japan's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) reported that there are now 39.48 million radio stations operating in the country as of Mar 1998, 10.27 million stations higher than for the same period in 1997. The MPT added that the peak growth rate occured in 1996 when it received 11.9 million new applications. However, the popularity of multiple-channel access technology could put a strain of available frequency resources. Analysts are calling for the development of new technologies that can efficiently use the existing spectrum.

Japan's resistor output crops below Y200 billion

Article Abstract:

The production of resistors in Japan dropped below 200 billion yen in 1998. The decline in output is attributed to a weak demand, drop in market price, sluggish economy in Japan and other Asian countries and an increase in overseas production. Japanese resistor manufacturers say that the high exchange rate of the yen will force them to reduce exports. In 1999, these manufacturers expect demand to grow, but are not sure whether production will reach the 200 billion yen mark again.
