Samsung, ARM shake on microprocessor deal

Article Abstract:

Samsung Electronics Company Ltd of South Korea has inked a deal with ARM Ltd of the UK for the use of its ARM9TDMI and ARM920T microprocessor cores. The ARM9TDMI and Smasung's 0.25um CMOS will be loaded in a single ASIC chip that will offer 150MHz clock rates at 2.5 V. The ARM920T will be used by Samsung to develop a system-on-chip. The resulting products, which will be released within 1999, are intended for portable communications systems and networks.

Samsung ships samples of ferroelectric RAMs

Article Abstract:

Samsung Electronics Company Ltd of South Korea has shipped engineering samples of a series of ferroelectric RAMs that the company developed for use in cellular telephones and game machines. The ferroelectric chips feature a two-layer metal circuitry, 64KB capacities and low power consumption. The company is positioning the ferroelectric RAMs to replace SRAMs in some electronic devices.
