Sharp hastens end of color CRT TV production

Article Abstract:

Sharp Corp will stop making color CRT TVs in 2003, two years earlier than the firm's previous schedule. Instead, the company plans to focus on color LCD TVs, expecting to sell 1.7 million LCD color TVs in 2003. Recently, Sharp introduced a 28-in color LCD TV in Japan. The company has no plan to offer LCD color TVs in the same sizes as the CRT models. Within Japan, Sharp's sales of LCD color TVs represent 25% of all color TV sales in value.

Digital satellite awaits cue as Japan's color TVs gather steam

Article Abstract:

Sales of color TVs in Japan have soared to 9.6 million units in 1999 and expected to reach 10 million units by the end of 2000. However, color TV sales could be affected by the launching of the digital satellite TV broadcast in the country on Dec 2000. Meanwhile, the demand for digital TV is expected to start growing in 2001 to 1.1 million units, with tuners for digital broadcast satellite services accounting for about 40% of the total.

Sony forecasts 5% increase in color TV production

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp has revealed its plan to increase color TV production by 5% in fiscal year 2000. The Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer intends to produce 11.8 million color TVs, of which 7 million units are flat- screen CRT WEGA models. Sony hopes that the total manufacturing system it will introduce to its facilities in Japan and abroad will make the increased production goal easier to realize.
