Sharp Corp's Liquid Crystal Digital ViewCam Slim digital camcorder, the VL-PD1, is among the first camcorders to feature a monitor panel that closes and opens. The Japanese company's engineers employed a chip-sized LSI, an innovative inner prism lens system and a thin mechanism in order to develop a compact camcorder with a thickness of 57mm. Including battery and tape, the 188mm X 98.5mm VL-PD1 camcorder weighs only 820g.

Using an advanced LSI, both the Y49,000 MD-MT832 and the Y46,000 MD-MT831 models employs a power-efficient pickup and mechanism for spinning the disc swiftly. Both products also boast of voice-activated recording capabilities.
