The World Energy Council, with the strength of over 70 member nations, commits itself to the sustainable supply and use of energy. The council aims to concentrate on energy needs of transitional and developing regions. It also aims to focus on energy development in industrialized nations.

Energy's millennium begins in Houston

Houston, Texas will be the site of the 17th Congress of the World Energy Council in September 1998. Considered as the energy capital of the world, Houston will be the third city in the US to serve as a host for the triennial celebration in the 20th century.

Waste-to-energy (WTE) plants have suffered attacks from environmental groups and public-health advocates. Nevertheless, WTE plants are expected to increase since they are more dependable than fossil-fueled plants and efficiently recover solid waste energy.
