The Invisible War: Software Suppliers Feel Pirates' Sting as Industry Turns the Other Cheek

Article Abstract:

Despite estimates that piracy is siphoning off fifty per cent of the market, software producers have yet to concentrate energy against the bootleggers. Manufacturers contend that they have little time to devote to the problem. Piracy is more of a problem to game makers than to management, education and business application producers. Legislative action may help as Congress starts studying the revision of the 1976 Copyright Revision Act.

Tape: Blank Videotape: More Suppliers, More Formulas, More Price Wars

Article Abstract:

At the 1984 Summer CES the blank videotape war continued. Unit sales are expected to reach eleven million in 1984 and producers are determined to conquer market shares. Over fifty videotape suppliers were present at the fair. Many new high end products were introduced. Manufacturers are increasingly turning to rebate programs to stimulate sales.

Manufacturers are approaching the audio-video market with a wide variety of different products. Some companies such as RCA and Mitsubishi are introducing stereo ready TV sets. Other companies, including Zenith, are relying on decoders to reach the the greatest number of consumers. Photographs of different products are included.
