Toshiba opens telecom tech center in England

Article Abstract:

Toshiba has opened the Telecommunications Research Laboratory in Bristol, England, which would focus on doing research on digital cellular phones and wireless access technologies. Related activities would focus on control and signal-processing technologies for digital cellular phones and chip sets. The facility would be headed by Joseph McGeehan, professor of Communications Engineering at the University of Bristol and director of the university's Center for Communications Research.

NAB '99 gears up for tough digital market, aims for full cooperation

Article Abstract:

The 1999 National Assn of Broadcasters (NAB) exhibition in Las Vegas, NV, attracted over 1,400 exhibitors from around the world. Highlights of the show were on digital broadcasting systems. Many vendors were also offering solutions that allow broadcasters to migrate to digital platforms and at the same time maintaining compatibility with analog equipment. Companies present in the show included Sony Corp, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd and Victor Co of Japan Ltd.

Disc war opens as HD DVD, BD recorders clash in marketplace

Article Abstract:

The features, functions and applications of high-definition digital video disc (HD DVD) technology and Blu-ray (BD) disc technology are compared. The growing market competition between products, such as recorders, using HD DVD format and BD format, is discussed.
