Transmission cable pulled through solid rock

Article Abstract:

Pennsylvania Power and Light Co overcame construction problems and health concerns by running its power cables under a street. The process was to bore a small tunnel where lengths of steel shielding pipes can be pulled into to house the power cables. Horizontal directional drilling was used to drill the tunnels.

Joint trenches: do you know if arcing conductor lines are burning up gas lines

Article Abstract:

PECO Energy has teamed up with General Electric Power Management to develop the Digital Feeder Monitor, a system that enables the monitoring of electric cable arcing that may endanger nearby gas lines. The system works by monitoring cables for tell-tale voltage fluctuations which signal arcing incidences.

Dielectric degradation in the environment

Article Abstract:

Environmentally-friendly dielectric coolants with fine-resistant properties, were developed for electrical utilities. They can opt for Dow Corning's silicone-based transformer fluid, Cooper Power Systems Envirotemp FR3 dielectric coolant and Dielectric Systems' biodegradable dielectric fluids.
