Users, not makers will drive actions in System LSI field

Article Abstract:

The demand for system LSIs will depend on its users and not on its makers. Historically, companies that required semiconductors based their products on what is available, system LSIs however, will be produced based on customer requirements. Based on this, analysts have predicted that companies involved in market research or those with access to market data will be those most likely to succeed in this field. System LSIs have contibuted much to the reduction of size of electronic equipment, due to their ability to offer multi-level functions in a single chip.

Robust pace of chip equipment sales slows down

Article Abstract:

The worldwide sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in Oct 2000, rose 83.4% compared to Oct 1999. Sales for the month were US$4.95 billion which were slightly down when compared to Sep 2000 figures of $5.11 billion, the highest in 2000 and a 40% increase from Aug 2000. Reports on November sales demonstrate a 7.4% decline from semiconductor manufacturing equipment makers in the US. The trends show that the pace of investments in semiconductor manufacturing may be slowing.
