Shift to fine rules spurs device makers to buy equipment

Article Abstract:

Makers of semiconductor devices are in the process of upgrading their production facilities to be able to handle 300mm-diameter wafers. Some manufacturers are investing in microfabrication equipment that will be used in making single-chip devices such as microprocessor units, DRAMs, read-only memories, flash memories and system LSIs that integrate memory devices. Equipment investments have already shifted to tools that support product quality instead of those aimed at increasing output.
