Viva Las Vegas: VSDA to Handicap New Competition: Mass Merchants Upping Ante

Article Abstract:

At the upcoming Video Software Dealer's Association convention attention will be focused on competition. The videocassette distribution base is widening to include mass merchants, record chains, drug stores and supermarkets. Many retailers are trying to establish an image as a neighborhood software source in order to deal with the competition. Included is a schedule of the convention.

CES Wrap-Up: Fun & Games

Article Abstract:

The pervasive mood among video game suppliers at the 1984 Winter CES was humility. There were few product introductions. Imagic and Parker Brothers introduced mostly translations of existing games into more formats. Several manufacturers predicted sales to remain at 1983 levels. Cumma Corporation and Xante showed products for programming cartridges at retail outlets.

CD Pricing Ghost of Christmas Past, or New Spirit of Profit?

Article Abstract:

Audio suppliers are concerned that price cutting may get in the way of the success of compact disk sales this Christmas 1984 selling season. Shipments of the units are expected to be up fifteen percent over 1983. Compact disk is being spotlighted as the glamour item. Many suppliers are planning big promotions. Photographs are included.
